i just did a search for phone alternatives to vonage (b/c I HATE HATE HATE them from an awful time trying to cancel like 10 years ago--still bitter about it). I referred to a chart and it seemed like the best option was ooma. never heard of it but it seems perfect for my Maine location which receives ZERO cell phone coverage by any network. The device is $150 but the free monthly service will be fine for me. it's actually just under $4/month for taxes etc. I would probably buy a cordless phone with 2 handsets and put the 2nd handset up in the loft. the primary handset and ooma box thing would be on my Ikea expedit shelves next to wireless router--in my office section. maybe even put into a knipsa basket to hide away that clutter.
